Major General Kenneth R. Dahl

Deputy Commanding General, I Corps Joint Base Lewis-McChord


MG Dahl commissioned as a Field Artillery officer in May of 1982 after graduating from the United States Military Academy. Following the Field Artillery Officer Basic Course, his first duty assignment was with the 3rd Infantry Division in Germany. MG Dahl also served with the 2nd Infantry Division in Korea, 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg NC, 25th Infantry Division in Hawaii, and 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum, NY. He served as an Assistant Professor of Military Leadership at the United States Military Academy, current operations officer for XVIII Airborne Corps, Fort Bragg, NC and Deputy Director of Staff Operations, Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE), Mons, Belgium.

From 2004-2006 MG Dahl was Commander of the 212th Field Artillery Brigade, Fort Sill Oklahoma. While deployed to Iraq from September 2005-August 2006 he provided command and control of the International (Green) Zone in support of the United States Embassy, MNF-I (Fwd) HQs, and the Government of Iraq. In June 2007 MG Dahl completed a Federal Executive Fellowship at the Brookings Institution where he focused his efforts on U.S. Government Interagency Reform. MG Dahl then served in the Pentagon within the J5 as Assistant Deputy Director for Political Military Affairs, Middle East and then as the Deputy Director for Operations, National Military Command Center, J3.

From 2010-2012 MG Dahl was the Deputy Commanding General (Support) for 10th Mountain Division and Deputy Commander (Support and Stability), Regional Command South, Afghanistan. He then returned the same year as the United States Forces Afghanistan Deputy Commanding General (Support) and Commander, United States National Support Element.

MG Dahl holds a Master of Arts degree in Social Psychology from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College. He also served as a National Security Fellow in the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. His awards and decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal (One Oak Leaf Cluster), Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal (One Oak Leaf Cluster), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (Four Oak Leaf Clusters), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal (Two Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Achievement Medal (Four Oak Leaf Clusters), Combat Action Badge, Air Assault Badge, Senior Parachutist Badge, and Ranger Tab.

MG Dahl is currently serving as the Deputy Commanding General, I Corps, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington.
