Stephen H. Helton

CSM Stephen H. Helton entered the United States Army as a Scout Helicopter Crew chief on 3 October 1990. He attended Basic Training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Rucker, AL. Following airborne training he was assigned to 2nd Battalion (Assault) 82nd Aviation Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division.


CSM Helton most recently served as the CSM, U.S. Army Special Operations Aviation Command. He has participated in numerous operations including Operation Uphold Democracy, Haiti 1994, Operation Iraqi Freedom 2003, 2004, 2005, 2010, 2011, and Operation Enduring Freedom 2013.

CSM Helton is a graduate of USASMA Class '62 and holds an Associate of Arts degree in General Studies from Central Texas College. He is also a graduate of the National Defense University Keystone Course, Joint Special Operations University Summit Course, and the Army Nominative Leader's Course. Additional courses include Airborne School, Air Assault School, Special Operations Training Course, SERE Level C, Strategic Mobility Planners Course, Equal Opportunity Leaders Course, Unit Prevention Leaders Course and the Combat Lifesaver Course.


CSM Helton's awards and decorations include: the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Master Aviation Badge, Parachutist Badge, and the Air Assault Badge. He is also the recipient of the Honorable Order of Saint Michael (Bronze Award) and the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge (Gold).
